The SO Project : Skincare

Tuesday, 27 August 2013

Hello pretty peeps!

Today's post is all about skincare and I hope to give a level of insight into what to use, when to use and a few do's and don'ts.

Throughout these posts, I hope I come across as a slightly wiser older sister and if you have any questions about the content or would like more info please email me at

Now, let's get started x

Firstly, there are three beauty rules I need to start with and these are kind of the main essentials.

1. Always use sunscreen. It stops ageing and nasties like cancer.

2. Always try to take your make up off - now I know it can be difficult when you have been out all night but try to remove as much as you can and if you do forget make sure you take off first thing in the morning!

3. Finally moisturise, moisturise, moisturise. In the morning and evening. Not only will it help your make up look better when applied, it also replenishes some of the moisture removed and absorbed when applying powders or during the cleansing process.

Now, we have that sorted, the million dollar question is - ' What do I buy?'

Well to be honest this is a little bit of trial and error but don't feel you need to be buying expensive brands as may high street options are perfect for younger skin.

I would really recommend the Simple range and for sensitive skin Avene Thermale which are both stocked at Boots. I have also used No7 which is gorgeous and I have heard rave reviews about B at Superdrug.

More expensive ranges are a real treat such as Estee Lauder and Lancome and these often come with gift purchases so you can try out more of their ranges.

All I would say is be wary of falling in love with a glamorous brand, I have incredibly sensitive skin so the fragrance and potency of some brands like Clarins and Clinique are too strong for my skin type but in the past I have been swept away and bought products I could not use because the advert/gift/product looked so awesome.

At the moment I am using the following ( I have very fair , sensitive, slightly freckled skin) :

Day Moisturiser : No7 Naturally Sunkissed Gradual Facial Tan and Moisturiser SPF15 (No7 Protect and Perfect Day Cream for winter is really rich and soothing)

Night Moisturiser : Nivea Q 10 Anti Wrinkle Night Cream ( No7 Protect and Perfect Night Cream equally awesome)

Eye Cream: Dior Capture Totale Multi Perfection Eye Treatment (for younger skin just to refresh and enhance try Body Shop Elderflower Cooling Eye Gel - I loved this)

Day Cleanser : Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth (or a cheaper alternative would be Superdrug Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser)

Cleanser/Exfoliator (Once a week) : Clarins One Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser

Lip product especially for winter : Dermalogica Climate Control Lip Treatment ( I use this throughout the day and before applying lippy!)

Don't Forget !!! :

Make Up Remover : Simple Kind to Skin Pore Minimising Toning Cleanser

I use cotton wool pads to use my daily cleanser and my make up remover otherwise clean fingertips will be fine to apply all other products. Be very careful round your eye area and pat rather than rub the cream/gel in, as this skin is particularly delicate.

Otherwise, just remember to cleanse and moisturise (in that order) twice a day and you will have the perfect canvas for your daily make up x

I hope this post has helped for a basic insight into skincare, if you have a specific concern of course please go and see a professional dermatologist and if you have any other questions about the products above please do message me.

Have a fab week and see you next week for our next Starting Out Project post!

Hugs as always,

FFF xxx

P.s keep your eye cream in the fridge as this makes it extra soothing on application!
